Telepsychiatry
To remove barriers to treatment and allow children and adolescents to receive needed psychiatric care from afar, DePaul offers a unique service known as telepsychiatry.
Because there are often long waiting lists for child psychiatrists, and those living in rural areas have difficulty getting to appointments, telepsychiatry allows individuals and families to connect with a qualified psychiatrist remotely, via video conferencing. Provided through individual partnerships with Centra Health Systems and Carilion Health Systems, this service delivers the same psychiatric care, medication management, and support of a traditional office setting without added hardships of expensive travel and logistics. Children and adolescents participate in these sessions at their local DePaul office, seated alongside a DePaul staff member who can offer support when needed, clarify questions or information, and help fulfill the doctor’s recommendations after the session is over. In some cases, the sessions can take place via video conferencing from the client’s home.
Funding Eligibility
Telepsychiatry is funded by Medicaid insurance, as well as most private insurance plans. Please contact your local office for more information.
